We want a client gallery to be usable by everyone the photographer sends it to. This statement describes where GalleryLink actually stands — not a claim of full conformance, because we have not yet had the Service independently audited.
Our target
We aim to meet WCAG 2.1 level AA, the standard referenced by the European Accessibility Act and by EN 301 549. We treat that as the bar to build toward rather than a box we have ticked.
What works today
- Keyboard navigation in the gallery. The fullscreen lightbox can be moved with the arrow keys and closed with Escape.
- Labelled controls. Interactive elements — the lightbox dialog, the Photos/Videos tabs, download and navigation buttons, the password field — carry ARIA labels and roles, and the lightbox is marked up as a modal dialog.
- Semantic structure. Pages use one
h1and a proper heading order, so screen readers and reader modes can navigate them. - Image alternatives. Photos carry their filename as alternative text, and decorative artwork is marked as decorative so it is skipped rather than announced.
- Reduced motion. The animated founder video respects the operating system's “reduce motion” setting.
- Responsive and zoomable. Layouts reflow down to small screens and tolerate zoom without a horizontal scrollbar.
Known limitations
Being straight with you about the gaps we are aware of:
- No independent audit. Nothing here has been verified by an external accessibility tester, and no assistive-technology testing has been done beyond keyboard use.
- Alternative text is filenames. For photographs we pass through the file's name, which is rarely a meaningful description of the image. Photographers cannot yet write per-photo alt text.
- No skip-to-content link on marketing pages.
- Themes are not contrast-audited. Some gallery themes and studio accent colours a photographer can choose may fall below the 4.5:1 contrast ratio; we do not currently warn them when a combination does.
- Video captions. We do not host or generate captions — videos play from the photographer's Google Drive as supplied, so captioning depends on the file they upload.
